Where do you teach?

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, and to accommodate my overseas students, all teaching takes place via Zoom.

How do group classes work?

Group classes take place on Zoom and build on the work that we do in our lessons already. They’re suitable for all instrumentalists and singers; please reach out if you’d like to discuss if they’re suitable for you or your child.

Do you offer preparation for ABRSM music exams?

Yes! I offer comprehensive exam preparation for Grades 1-8 in both singing and piano.

Are you DBS-checked?

Yes - I have a current Enhanced DBS Certificate.

I’ve never had a singing lesson before. Is that OK??

Yes! I work with singers of all levels, from children and adult beginners to advanced students. Whatever your current level, I can help you to sing with greater ease, confidence and enjoyment.

How does an online lesson work?

The lesson will take place over Zoom and is then just like a regular music lesson, except that you get the comfort and convenience of taking the lesson at home. In the first lesson I’ll take some time to ensure that the setup is working smoothly and to help you find a good position for your camera.

Do I need special equipment?

No, your phone or computer speakers and microphone will be perfectly fine! Sometimes using headphones makes the audio better, but this is optional.

What about the accompaniment?

Online lessons are an excellent opportunity to focus on technique and making the best possible sound in any given phrase. I support those processes gently from the piano, and can direct you to appropriate backing tracks for any full run-throughs of a song.

Do I need a piano?

Only if you're looking to have a piano lesson!

How can I tell if my child needs singing lessons?

If your child loves to sing around the house, or wants to join a choir, they can benefit from singing lessons to ensure that their voice develops gently and healthily. Learning to sing develops self-confidence, posture and the production of the speaking voice, while instilling a lifelong love of music.

Will I notice a difference immediately?

Singing technique takes time to develop, but students generally see immediate results in some areas as they learn to free their voice.

How many lessons will I need?

Weekly lessons are recommended, as regular tuition is vital in order to cultivate good habits and prevent unhelpful ones from creeping in. Even professional singers take lessons throughout their lives to ensure that the voice remains balanced - how long you wish to study for will depend on your personal aims.

Can I record my lesson?

Yes! Zoom makes this very easy, and I actively encourage the recording of lessons. Watching or listening back to the lesson a couple of days later is a tremendously effective way to reinforce learning.
